This kitchen, in an older expansive bungalow with a stunning waterfront backyard. This beautiful setting became the foundation for our open concept Kitchen and Great Room Design. Besides the usual functional requirements, the client wanted a ‘Rock Star’ visual kitchen.
The former separated dining room was changed to a library/lounge and the family table was moved to the kitchen. Additional seating was added with a stunning walnut bar top on the island. Room ‘sculpting’ created an interesting wall of varying depths for the kitchen and provided storage and visual interest in the long hall behind.
Unique design:
The kitchen features a ‘bridge’ design of walnut cabinetry surrounding the pro-style fridge and freezer. Other appliances are clustered with demi-tall pantries and form an interesting linear definition that suits the ‘long’ room definition. High gloss white cabinets featuring handle-free design are topped with gray quartz. The stunning Noble Grey Light Marble backsplash is installed with a horizontal grain to complement the linear definition. The reclaimed wide plank oak hardwood floor provides a rustic and comfortable grounding to the crisp modernism of the kitchen.
Challenges:
We purchased a bungalow on the Rideau River in Manotick, in need of a makeover. Our goal was to have the open concept kitchen and family room reflect our personal style while adding functionality. It was also important for this space to have the flexibility of family life during the week and entertaining space on weekends.
After meeting Friedemann and his team, I was content that we had made the right decision. I have to say, I myself felt as though I was part of their team, making decisions along the way while being supported by talent and expertise. I kept thinking, this is how it should be done.
We are thrilled with the results, which exceeded our expectations. When we get home now from work, we feel like we're stepping into a magazine, its a true showpiece. And the biggest compliment is this; when guests arrive at our home now, they pull out their phones to take photos.
