Finalist – Custom Kitchens, GOHBA Interior Design Awards 2011
This kitchen was part of a renovation that included replacing all of the hardwood on the main floor. Brazilian cherry was chosen for its rich colour and texture. However, the client really wanted a wood kitchen with a traditional style. So it was quite a challenge to find the right door style and colour.
We opted for a shaker door style in a rift white oak and sandalwood stain. The result is a beautiful contrast to the floor and set up the selection of a neutral counter and mosaic tile backsplash.
Interesting shapes were created around the fridge and bar area, and interesting shapes in cabinet design for the dish pantry and oven selections left space for personalizing by the client.
Appliances and equipment placement resulted in two distinct work zones; the prep zone on the back side of the island, and the clean up zone around the main sink. Stainless drawer fronts were added on each side of the pro-style range top to create an interesting cooking element. A very interesting shape is used for the island bar support.
