Finalist – Custom Kitchens, GOHBA Interior Design Awards 2012
This small kitchen was renovated to suit the architectural character of the modern design of the house. The clients are avid collectors of mid-century modern furniture and modern art. They wanted the kitchen to be highly functional for daily use and entertaining. Aside from that it also needed to harmonize with the art and architecture.
A few door relocations later, we achieved an island with an eating area, generous counter space and a dream selection of appliances. The media wall adds more storage and the all-important connection to TV and internet. The doors were carefully detailed to match the existing and were perfectly aligned with the windows.
Very careful planning of the new wall dividing the kitchen from the dining room resulted in an impressive wall unit that is perfectly aligned with the doors.
The colour scheme of white and walnut cabinets is a continuation of existing furniture, and the black island counter and grey slate floor also match the architecture.
In keeping with the minimalist mandate, the obligatory over counter outlets were concealed in the bottom of the upper cabinets. Handle-free design for the cabinets also maintains a clean uncluttered look.
