Winner – Custom Kitchens, GOHBA Interior Design Awards 2006
This kitchen at only 134 square feet was a challenge to enlarge and provide all the usual functional requirements while keeping to a strict contemporary aesthetic.
The existing table and chairs provided inspiration for the colour palette of neutral grey cabinets which contrast with the warm gold of the hardwood flooring; these in turn are complemented by the watery blue glass tiles of the backsplash. Stainless appliances add impact without being overbearing. The intentional exclusion of cabinetry around the hood maximizes the room size and keeps the impressive glass backsplash as a feature. The countertop was thickened from its usual scale to preserve the rhythm of the tiles which fit perfectly between the countertop and the underside of the uppers.
