The Design for this custom home was initiated by the architects for the developer. The clients were dissatisfied with the development of the designs and sought additional input. On a visit back to their hometown (Ottawa), they met with Design First to see if we could help. We proposed design solutions that satisfied the clients and demonstrated our ability to complete a project that would respond to their needs in a very personal manner. We were awarded the commission.

Our designs began with the overall space planning and architectural configuration; walls, doors, and stairs were re-positioned until the layout and rooms all worked in a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing manner. A central hallway with striking ceiling detail leads from the front to back door with an impressive vista of the sea beyond the back garden.

Each room was carefully designed and detailed by Design First. All components including layout, finish selections, ceiling designs, and lighting designs were addressed. The main living areas of kitchen and family room enjoy direct access to the rear garden and pool area with stunning views out to the sea. The mudroom/pantry is well positioned with easy access from a secondary entry. The adjacent powder room is equipped with lockers and serves as the pool change room for guests. The guest quarters are slightly removed for privacy and have their own terrace with a view. The kitchen with its double island, soapstone counters and eating area is spacious but very comfortable for family and entertaining.

On the second floor, the three children’s bedrooms are generously proportioned and feature attached baths and ample closet space. A bright and spacious laundry is conveniently located on the second floor. The master suite contains the bedroom with an awesome view and access to the second floor balcony, the walk-in wardrobe, and a very large ensuite bath.
