Finalist – Renovations/Additions, GOHBA Interior Design Awards 2012
This renovation project kept the million dollar views as the primary focus for all the work done in the home. In most cases the windows and doors were enlarged to take advantage of the view. The new “Nana Wall” doors for the living room and the new horizontal window for the master bedroom had a terrific benefit for those spaces. The new Infinity Edge pool, extensive landscape design, along with the new roof and stucco finishes brought the house to a standard matching its setting.
Inside, on the ground floor, the rooms were reconfigured and given definition on a strong centreline with the living room fireplace and kitchen cooktop aligned. All the interior demising walls were replaced with walls that maintained the structure, but provided completely open concept from end to end. All window casings were removed in favour of drywall returns; drywall casings were replaced with thick reveals. A formerly cramped entry was opened up with a modern staircase and defined by an interested wine storage room.
On the second floor the main reconfiguration revolved around the master bedroom and Ensuite. The orientation of the bed in the master bedroom allows for an unprecedented view of the river, from the bed. A beautiful domed ceiling for the Ensuite bath was inspired by the existing curved wall. The laundry room feature has a very large set of sliding doors that close off the space when not in use.
The rich, dark maple floors are contrasted with the all-white colours of walls and ceilings.
