The challenge with very large kitchens (This is over 587 square feet) is to maintain a good efficiency. Fortunately this custom home permitted flexibility in the architecture to achieve specific design goals; Good cooking efficiency, extensive equipment selection, dual work zones, generous table area, computer station, communication with the family room, and generous storage.
The SubZero 642-0 was the best choice for fridge because of the smaller door swing and its generous storage capacity, beside it is the oven tower with Wolf oven SO-30U-S and Wolf warming drawer WD-30. The main island accommodates a large double stainless steel sink station and is flanked by two dishwashers. This very efficient work triangle is completed by the Wolf cooktop CT36E with Wolf downdraft DD361. The second island accommodates the additional function and storage requirements with the SubZero wine fridge 424-0 and the SubZero fridge drawers 700 BR. To the left of the cooktop is a secondary oven tower with coffee system, microwave and steam oven.
An arched opening over the cook top is positioned exactly in line with the cook top and the ceiling design of the hallway beyond is aligned with this. All door and window positions were set by the design of the cabinetry to create exact symmetry on the walls remaining. For example, it is not accidental that the wall space on either side of the dish pantry uppers is identical. The beautiful character of the handcrafted wood eating bar is repeated for other tops in the kitchen and inspired the selection of the table and chairs. Classic white cabinets, soapstone counters, limestone floors and walls; all blend together for a cozy and comfortable kitchen for this family.
