A young professional couple set out to build a contemporary design inside of a classic Spanish colonial home. Some minor modifications to the interior architecture resulted in some major design benefits. The air handling closet in the great room became a massive ‘Feature wall’ that accommodated the T.V. as ‘Art.’ Precise location of the windows and doors in the kitchen aligned with interior design elements. All of the windows and doors were executed without casings for a clean and contemporary effect. Some of the key design features were items such as, the air handler in the mud room that was integrated into the millwork, and a ‘barn door’ to the office which had special character. All the baths demonstrated an attention to detail that was driven early on with fixture and finish selections.
Throughout the house, the combination of design layout, lighting design, finish and furniture selections which resulted in a stunning home where modern life is comfortable.
Friedemann and his team assisted us with our “whole house” design. My husband originally was adamant that we could figure out our kitchen ourselves; two hours into our first meeting, he was writing a check to Friedemann to design the entire house. He is practical, thorough, inspiring, and has created a home that is far beyond what we could have ever hoped for. He was able to interpret our vision, even when we were struggling to do so, and created a home that perfectly blends modern and rustic elements for a family with young children. Long after our build was over, we continue to use his tips and mantras when decorating. Seven years after moving in, we still feel tickled about our home.
He is an advocate for his clients and his commitment to detail is unrivaled. We are so happy to watch the design awards roll in for Design First as they are well, well deserved. And we are really proud to call Friedemann a friend. Just a great experience in every respect.
