A beautiful garden complete with pebble stream and waterfall, a ravine lot, and glorious nature in four seasons….
This was the inspiration for the design of this small kitchen in an average tract house. There is no design that can compete with nature’s designs; we can however honour what nature shows us. The kitchen previously had very limited visual access to the beauty surrounding it. The window was enlarged and an opening between the kitchen and dining room was added. Both openings were taken to the countertop and finished without trim, creating an effect of panoramic vision for the work area of sink and cook top. A new full-light door with custom frosting was added to give direct access to the garden and the patio outdoors. This custom frosting detail was repeated in the stunning sliding door in the dining room. Note how the ceiling was lowered 2” in D/R and the track is imbedded in the hardwood.
Rift-cut maple cabinets with pebble hardware, Corian countertops, fully integrated fridge and dishwasher, and a stainless appliance stack all are minimal in detail. The unique island design is suspended in order to see more floor of the room; thereby making the room feel larger.
